1. Tutankhamun Ale

This beer has an interesting history. The recipe for this beer was discovered during an excavation in Queen Nefertiti's Temple of Sun – Egypt. Excavations found the existence of breweries in the Sun Temple. This recipe was brought and prepared in Cambridge University's laboratory. The beer is named after Nefertiti's supposed stepson, the famous emperor Tutankhamun. The first bottle of this beer was sold at a whopping $7,686. But now the beer may be purchased for $52 a bottle.

2. Crown Ambassador

Crown Ambassador is an expensive beer manufactured by Fosters, the Australian beer manufacturer. It is a limited edition beer manufactured by the company. Only 8000 bottles of this beer are available in the market. The idea of bringing out this beer was in fact to promote and boost the image of the company’s lager beer, Crown. A bottle of Crown Ambassador cost $91 and can cost even up to $800 in auctions.

3. Samuel Adams Utopias

This is another vintage beer that is quite expensive. It held the Guinness World Record for being the strongest beer. This is because it has 25% alcohol (or 50 proof). The beer is brewed with a blend of high-quality hops and sold in a special copper plated kettle. The beer offers a unique flavor due to addition of vanilla, oak or caramel during its production. The beer must be served at room temperature. There are only 8000 bottles of this vintage beer and each bottle costs $100.

4. Carlsberg Vintage 3

Carlsberg is one of the most popular and commonly available lager beers. It is hard to relate such a popular low cost beer with the word “expensive”. In 2008, the company introduced a premium beer, Vintage 1. Vintage 3 is the third in the trilogy and was launched in 2010. Since its launch, it is considered one of the world's most expensive beers. A bottle of this beer costs $348. It is tapped by hand while its label is designed by Kasper Bonnen and two other artists from the Radiant Copenhagen project.

5. Antarctic Nail Ale

This premium ale comes from the Australian Nail brewing company. The company is known for its craft beer for nearly a decade. The limited edition Antarctic Nail Ale sold out for a record-breaking price of $800 in an auction. The specialty of this ale is that it is brewed by actual Antarctic ice brought back by the crew of Sea Shepherd, the controversial eco-warriors. This was to support the cause of the fight against whale hunting in the Antarctic sanctuary. There were only 30 bottles of this ale produced, and they fetched really hefty prices.

6. La Vieille Bon Secours

This is probably the world’s most expensive beer costing £39 for a pint. This beer is available in London’s bar called Bierdrome. The beer was originally brewed by a Belgian firm Caulier in 1995. It has its origins in the country’s Walloon region. The beer is known to have a complex taste with various flavors such as caramel, citric and toffee with an undertone of aniseed and liquorice. Only few bars and restaurants are known to have stocked it.

7. Brewdog's “End of History”

If you have a soft corner for dead animals,, stay away from this beer. This expensive beer can shock you in quite a few ways. Firstly, it has a high alcoholic content of 55 percent (110 proof). It is infused with nettles and fresh Juniper berries. The beer comes from the Scottish brewery Brewdog and there are only eleven bottles of it. The second shocking thing about this beer is its price. It can easily cost you about $765 per bottle. The third most shocking thing is that the bottle is encased in the carcasses of squirrels or weasels. There are seven weasels and four grey squirrels, all eleven being roadkill.
