5 Friendliest Dog Breeds You Want To Have

Updated on February 26, 2014

Dogs are probably the most adorable pets you can have. A few months ago, I had written a post about some of the ferocious dog breeds you must however watchout for. You can read it here. http://hubpages.com/hub/8-Worlds-Most-Dangerous-Dogs-You-Must-Fear

As a follow up of the post, I am presenting you some of the friendliest dog breeds you can find. There are several dog breeds that are friendly to us. In fact, one can train any dog breed to be friendly with others. Here are however, my favourite 5 friendly dog breeds.

1. Labrador Retriever

This dog breed definitely ranks first on my list. I have met two of them and I became instant friends with them. Also, commonly called 'Lab', this dog breed can become instant friends with most people if you approach it nicely. It has a natural kind, gentle, outgoing and tractable nature. It is a medium-sized, strongly built, short dog with good intelligence and athletic body.

2. Golden Retriever

The golden retriever is another lovely breed of dog. If you have watched the movie ‘Air Buddies’, the movie sums it up. The dog breed is cuddly, friendly and trustworthy. Not only these, the dog breed is also intelligent and confident. Again, though the dog is considered a hunting dog, it has a friendly temperament. In fact, any kind of hostile nature towards other dog breeds or people is completely opposite to the breed's character. Golden retrievers are enthusiastic dogs and love sports.

3. Beagle

The beagle is a very cute and one of the friendliest dogs belonging to the hound breed. Not only is it cut, it is also intelligent, amiable, even tempered, gentle, determined and an excitable dog. Though it is classified as a hunting breed, it is very friendly with children. The dog is easy to tame and becomes a family dog easily. Beagles easily adapt to the living environment. If keeping in the city or an apartment, it would be ideal to provide it adequate space.

4. Yorkshire Terrier

I have never personally had Yorkshire Terrier as a pet, but I have a couple of my friends having it as a pet. The salient feature of this dog is its long coat. Its hair almost blinds its eyes. As an outsider, you may be a victim of the dog's loud bark, but you would hardly be a victim of its bite. The looks of the dog is such that one can automatically categorize it as a toy breed. A Yorkshire Terrier has average trainability. But, it may not be very friendly with other dogs.

5. Dacshund

This is another favourite dog breed of mine. It is short with an elongated body. The breed has its origins in Germany, hence the name Dacsh'hund' (German meaning: badger dog). Interestingly, Germans call it Dackel and not Dachshund. Though the dog is short, it is clever and courageous. It is a little stubborn, but is very devoted. It is also a very lively and playful dog. It is also considered one of the best watchdogs with good adaptability.

Undoubtedly, there are many other dogs that are very friendly. In fact, the most ferocious dog can be friendly if trained and treated properly. Do post your favourite dog breed in the 'comments' section below.
